Ask-It Basket!

Thought this could work rather well online - what dya think?

Everyone has questions right? About life, God, the world etc. and I figure that between us we might have lots of answers. So what I propose is for now- just to get our minds going to come up with a list of possible questions for us to have a stab at. Then we'll pick em off one at a time over the coming weeks/months.

Here's a few topics of the top of my head to get us started:

War/drugs/creation/sex/miracles/spiritual gifts/speaking in tongues/heaven and hell/Is it ok to be a rich Christian?/What about suffering?/Euthanasia/GM Foods/ Fair trade/Other religions/Homosexuality/ Alove/uniform... The list is endless!

So comment below - add some possible questions for discussion.

Would it be possible to allow anonymous posting Will? I think that may be a better avenue to go down if we can.

On the question front let's start with an easy one. Apart from pigs, name another animal does the bible say we shouldn't eat?

I think we (I) should create a 'Anonaymous' user that we all know the password to so we can all post using that.

Or is the an easier way to do that?

and to answer Dans question,
snake?

Another option would be to allow "Anon" comments but moderate the comments before they are posted.

That might be easier but it means that comments don't appear straight away. (that's how my blog works).

Or you could just run the risk of allowing anon comments and delete any that are inappropriate.

I'll change the setup to allow anonymous comments. If we get any trouble we'll reconsider.

So now you can add your questions without any embarassment!!

To the Question

How can i break free from looking at internet porn?

You need to put your computer in a room that they whole family use ie the lounge.

You need to ask God to forgive you and to clense your mind of all the sexual images that you have seen. Also ask God to give you more strength when you feel the need to look at it. God is so powerfull and if you really want to stop it he will help you.

If you still can't stop it get someonme you really trust to pray with you about it.

There was an article about it in the Salvationist a while back take a look on the army website at the back issues the issue you want is 12th August 2006 and the article title is I want to break free.

There is a good book called staying pure by a guy called Colin Guy published by new wine this may help too. Its a book not spercifically about porn but about what sex is really about and covers alot of the issue around it. There is a chapter on same sex relationships which may help the person who wrote the other question too.

Hope this helps.

Seems the anonymous thing helped then. Thats good.

Thanks Gem for some answers. its up to all of us to write answers too this is not just ask-Will. So its good Gemma joined in.

On the internet-porn thing I definitely agree with what Gemma said. I suppose there are practical things you can do and spiritual things too. practical things like changing where the computer is (I know its popular to have computer somewhere private but I think that really is a bad idea). Or avoiding computer late at night when you're tired and have less will-power perhaps. Porn is a vicious circle - the more you look at - the more you want to look at. Its also a big lie. Porn tempts you by thinking it will satisfy you but it never will - it'll just make you want more. The more you manage to stay away from it the easier it will be. Also think about the people you're looking at. Rememeber they are real people with feelings and emotions. is this something you think is good for them? Why have they chosen to do this? Just by clicking on their sites you are paying the people who photograph them (by the way adverts work on the internet). When you get tempted to look - think about something else - refuse to consider it - don't debate with yourself about it - just move on knowing that it's not going to make you happy anyway.

The Spiritual side is important too. Self control is a fruit of the spirit. You can pray for it. Is looking at porn a sign that you're not right with God at the moment too? Pray for God to help you. Try praying every day for God to keep your mind pure. Some people repeat "create in me a clean heart" lots of times every day (like we did with "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me" with the prayer beads at youth retreat).

It would be really good if you could pick someone you trust to be honest with about it too. They might not be as surprised as you think they will be.

When I was on the timothy program - all the boys were asked to anonymously write down the one issue they find most difficult in being a christian. Every single one of them wrote something about sex, porn, keeping their mind pure etc.

Its difficult but it absolutely can be done. Will pray for you.

You'll see that I've been deleting a few unhelpful comments. If that gets out of hand we may have to enable comment moderation so I have to check the comments before they appear - I'd rather not do that though.

Keep the questions coming - I think rather than answer them all here - it's best to pick them off one at a time and deal with each one in a separate post - otherwise it'll get complicated! but for now lets get a list of questions here.

Thanks Al - good point.

List so far:

How do you resist internet porn?
"I think I am Gay" general discussion?
What to do if you've already had sex?
What about GM foods?
What happens when people are "slain in the spirit"?
Why does God allow suffering?
Can God forgive abortion?
What does God think about drugs?

I think anonymous posting is only available if we upgrade our blog to the new blogger.

I think it would be better if the Ask-It basket would be as a seperate blog or webpage.

1:25 PM
Blogger Will said...

To the anonymous person who posted that they can't post anonymously unless we go to the new upgraded blogger- I don't get it!

Thomas - I know its a bit messy isnt it - but I think thats ok and a new webpage/blog would be too complicated - I think best to keep it all here.

For the climate change question. I have posted on my blog a link to Al Gores An Inconvenient Truth site. There is some information there. I would recommend, that although the problem seems too big for individuals, we all need to play our small part.

I'll see what I can do to get hold of the copy of the DVD to show everybody.

Is it going against Gods will? If God wanted it to happen then it would happen nautrally yeah? Just wondered as christians what do we think?

Blogger B said...

to be honest im not sure what God thinks about IVF, but i know one thing is for sure....He does want the earth populated, He says so in Genesis. i don't know whether this changes anything to do with IVF. Anyone to help?

8:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

what does IVF mean?

1:34 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

IVF is In vitro fertilisation which basically means that a woman's egg becomes fertilised with a man's sperm outside of the womb i.e. Test tube baby's.

Some christian's think that it's wrong because it means scientists are essentially, playing God.

Personally, I agree more with the theory of ensoulment, which basically means that after a number of days, when the baby become more than just a bundle of cells it recieves it's soul and so there isnt really a problem with the egg being fertilised outside the womb.
