David Blaine in Salvation Army Gyroscope Stunt

Yes! You heard right....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6178718.stm

David Blaine - weird 'magician' who believe's he can fly and appears to have some sort of a Messiah complex, has been raising money for the SA.

2 questions here:

Is David Blaine the sort of person who is a good face for a SA fund raising campaign?

Why does the article refer to "the Salvation Army Charity" repeatedly? Is it terrible to think that Blaine would raise money for a DUH DUH DUH (brass stinger)....Church?

Discuss.

Nice one Lucy - well said.

Normally I would insist that we should be kind to our foreign neighbours - but when we're talking about the french - thats a different matter. Not really racism but more of a national hobby.

The church or charity thing is a sign of our increasingly secular society isn't it?

Think I've found my Thursday Thought :)

Good to have you on our editorial team Lucy :)

I wasn't that bothered that they were mentioning it as a charity until I realised that it looked like they were almost trying to distance the good work that was being done from any sort of 'religious nutters' (if you get what I mean).

It just smacks of people wanting teh SA to do good work, but trying to avoid the reason that we do it.

Also I erally don't like David Blaine, I think he's creepy and up his own posterior. I also think that a 'magician' (or whatever he calls himself) may be somewhat at odds with the Christian faith.
