It's monday - I'm moaning...

..is this begining to feel familiar to anyone else?

Well, never one to shy away from contraversy, I'm going to moan about......

.....

....YOU!

The last two weeks we've had spots in the meeting where people can take part with testimonies or ideas, or something of a similar vein. Now I know there are all sorts of possibilities with these opportunities, and that sometimes it can be daunting, but your input is as valuable and neccessary as anyone elses. I don't think it's right that (no offense intended) the youngest person to take the opportunity was Heather.

Now most of you will have noticed that I've become a part time popper. I'm up possibly 30% of the opportunities I get. When I was a kid I wouldn't have dreamed of getting up, but now you can't keep me down. I'm only trailing Ray, Gill, Megan, Jean & Heather!!! So what changed Dan (is the question you're supposed to be asking)?

Well - it's a good job you ask, because I was going to tell you anyway.

People's testimonies count.

In fact, quite often people's testimonies count for more than a whole sermonm, at least to me. Look at Jeff Pearson - he became a Christian based on someone's testimony. People are moved by testimonies. They're also a great conversation starter with people you don't normally talk to!

I started standing up and talking when I realised that I had something to say. Not only did I have something to say, but I had something that no-one else could ever have said. If I hadn't said it no-one ever would!

You have something too. You might struggle in articulating it, you might not be able to link it to a bible verse, or song as some people do. You might not enjoy public speaking, you might feel inadequate, or uncomfortable. None of that is important.

What is important is that you have a relationship with God, that will be different to everyone else's, and if you tell us about it then maybe it will tell us about our own relationships, or encourage us to do something different or better.

Testimonies are often a challenge, or a question, sometimes a prayer request, or just a thought that came to you. Go for it! Tell us!

I know for a fact that I listen less and less to the testimonies from people I expect to hear from. When someone like Glynn stands up and gets emotional then that makes a big impression. When someone like Gemma or Sandra Dean gets up that's important because we don't hear from them all the time, but when we do you can tell they mean what they say.

If you catch all those 'old people' off guard with what is happening in your life they are going to be moved. They'll sit up and listen to you - probably more than they will to me now. You have a power that you don't use - I kind of feel that you're letting the corps down if you don't tell us what's going on every now and again.

I'm not saying pop up everytime the chance comes along. But when you've got something - GET UP!

What's the worst that can happen?....

Notice

Hello everyone,

Just to let you know I'm on holiday this week so there is unlikely to be a thursday thought (ahhhhhh). I know disappointed you'll all be about that. Unless someone else wants to post one...

Thursday's thought

Our blog is going well isn't it? It's certainly one of the more active blogs I've seen. As I said last sunday, I think there are two dangers with the blog; either no one will use it and it will just die away or it will only be fun, silly stuff and nothing meaningful that helps our faith. I'm glad there's lots of fun banter - that's important too (especially at the start) but I'd like the blog to help us talk about God and our faith too.

So today's thought:

I was reading an article in a magazine recently about talking to non-Christian young people about God. It said the main difficulty is that "young people today are not asking the questions that religion answers". People generally aren't interested in answers to questions they're not asking.

So two questions to start us off: What questions does religion answer? and Are young people asking them?

Wednesday Website

So I thought I'd start with the first Wednesday website.

Well its more like a link to youtube actually, but hopefully it will inject 40 seconds of amusement into your life.

With any luck that should hyperlink it's self and save me a ton of hassle.

enjoy!

getting impatient

where is my brother with his tuesday cheese? school or no school this takes precedence over anything else. get a move on already!

What about a free forum for prophecy.....

.....And Lo! Amongst thee there shall come a boy. And he shall grow. Grow into a man. He shall have the same name as some other men, and an entirely different one to some others. To some his name will bear a passing resemblance, but will not be a direct match. And whence upon he speaketh thy name thoust will verily take heed, for He shalt have things of great interest to say. Things relating to the future. And to the past. Often to the present also. And it shall in time come to pass, in the manner deemed appropriate, that he shall do some things with which some other people, whose names may or may not resemble, or even match his own, will disagree. And they shalt grumble a little bit under their breath and frown uponst him. And he will continue doing these things in the oblivious manner of which is the prerogative of men.

Wedenesday's Website

I don't think we agreed who was going to do this feature - any volunteers? We need a mixture of Christian and non-Christian sites please.

Our To Do Not List

(aka The Rules)

As agreed on sunday...

1. Be nice
2. Minimal blatant self-promotion
3. Avoid unique identifiers (ooooh) ie. no phone numbers, surnames, addresses
4. Not photos of each other (not until we work out a consent form thingy)
5. No filth

As we also discussed there is potentially a problem with double negatives here (the to do not list includes no filth so does that mean no no filth ie everything must be mucky). The answer is no. So thats no no no filth. You understand!?

They're not set in stone - we can review them if there are other suggestions.

We want Cheese, We want cheese!

ok probably expecting it before 9am is a little optimistic but I'm just excited :)

The Monday Moan

Or should that be My Monday Moan, or My Morose Monday Moan, Or maybe it shouold happen on the first MOnday of each month, becoming My Monthly Morose Monday Moan. As I'm sure you've noticed at the minute we are big into alliteration.

Well today's moan is....

....Worship music.

Ah-ha! All the Salvationist readers are thinking - this is one I know every argument to - he's going to slate the songbook, or say we should only sing songs including the word 'Thy'.

Well..... No.

I'm annoyed at this phrase 'Worship' songs. Clearly denoting that SA songbook songs aren't worship. Or, now we're going to sing a song in an attitude of worship. We even have a 'worship' band - what are the other band doing????

Now personally I think there is an equal amount of dross to quality found in the SASB and in these young upstarts like the source, the songs of fellowship & whatnot else. the point I'm making is that it's an extremely offensive attitude to take, that new songs and modern music constitutes worship, whereas old styles do not.

Even if that's not the general attitude then things need to be named and labelled better. It's one of those things where people say 'oh you know what I mean'. But in reality many people have made up their minds in advance when you label things thus, and they know what they mean and not what you do.

I know it sounds like I'm being a bit PC, but I think this is a genuine issue, nad maybe more of us would be open to new worship styles if we less damning to the old ones.

I am the Webmeister!!

Fear my wrath!

No one else is allowed to use my font.

This is our blog

Oh yes, if there was any doubt as to what this is it is our blog and there's no denying it!

Ha! So there!

I'm not refering to myself in the plural again, oh no - the nice doctor gave me pills and now they don't talk to me so often. Anywho it a collective blog, or maybe a corporate blog, but not cold, harsh and competetive corporatenessnessness. It is the collective blog of Walton SA youth group. You can check us out in more detail once we all sign up and sort out profiles etc.

Check it out from time to time, because if you don't the baby Jesus will cry.
